Anchorage to Homer

Going into Anchorage was really the first time on the trip where you started to feel the crowds. It was especially apparent after so many days of relative desolation.

If you look closely, you can see Anchorage's version of urban sprawl. At least they keep most of the trees.

The Sunday that we left Anchorage towards Homer was the finale of some kind of festival they had there and it was non-stop cars, trucks and RV's for many, many miles returning to Anchorage. It was just like being in Seattle or any other big city.

The road to Homer is just gorgeous though, with steep mountains on the left with enough space for a road and the train tracks, with awesome views across the huge tidal plain.

We saw this killer truck at a rest stop. It was for sale for $250,000 US. I asked if it was bullet resistant.

Natasha! Save me!

I reckon you ride down this road for 40 miles or more before you hit the end of the bay and swing around to come part way back before you hit the straight road to Homer.
